Shindigz Party Hosts Donate to the Humane Society of Whitley County
Shindigz Party Hosts already know how to celebrate every holiday and occasion on the calendar and even some bizarre holidays that aren’t on the calendar. This week, the Fun Team decided to promote a week long celebration for pets! This included a pet donation drive to benefit the Humane Society of Whitley County. All week long, Party Hosts were encouraged to bring in items from a list of supplies needed at the animal shelter. For each item that was brought in, that person received a raffle ticket. On Friday Shindigz raffled off two $50 gift cards to Chop’s Restaurant in Fort Wayne. This gave Party Hosts a great incentive to keep bringing in items. Shindigz collected over 45 cans/bags of cat and dog food, 18 packages of laundry detergent and fabric softener, lots of miscellaneous pet supplies and over 325 pounds of kitty litter.
“It’s really great to take a week to celebrate our pets and to donate to such a great organization.” says Christy Phend who works in Internet Marketing. She continued, “I have a cat that I adopted, and I think he really knows that I saved his life. Of course, we can’t adopt them all, but it’s a good feeling knowing that we helped so many animals while they’re waiting to be adopted and loved by a new family.”
Shindigz also featured adoption information for pets on a bulletin board all week long in an attempt to promote animal adoptions. Pet care pamphlets were placed in each break room. On Wednesday, Party Hosts participated in a “Picture Purrfect” pet photo contest where employees voted for the cutest, best dressed and funniest photo. $20 Gift Cards to Pet Smart were awarded to two winners in each category so they could buy pet supplies for their winning pets.
The Humane Society of Whitley County opened its new animal shelter and adoption center in August 2004. The facility features 7,000 square feet of space, 44 dog runs, five cat rooms, and a community meeting room for educational programs.
